Arkles Bay: Your Guide to This Whangaparaoa Beach

Plan a visit to Arkles Bay, with practical beach advice and a place to stay across the road.

Arkles Bay is a beach on the Whangaparaoa Peninsula, north of Auckland. It is a place to spend time by the water and enjoy a coastal break, whether you are visiting local family, travelling around New Zealand or getting away from the city.

Planning time at the beach

Start with a walk along the shore, a picnic or time on the sand. Plan your visit around the weather and tide rather than assuming conditions will be the same each day. Bring sun protection and drinking water.

Before swimming or taking a kayak out, check current water quality, weather and sea conditions. Supervise children around the water and the road. A sheltered-looking bay does not guarantee safe conditions for every swimmer.

A beach break with the family

A couple of nights gives you time to settle in and enjoy the area without packing everything into one day. Keep the plans simple: beach time together, a meal and a comfortable place to return to.

When choosing accommodation, confirm the sleeping arrangement for the number and ages of your guests. Check cooking equipment and any access requirements before booking, especially if those details matter to your family.

Staying across the road from Arkles Bay

Beachfront Beauty at Stay Whangaparaoa is self-contained ground-floor accommodation at 23 Arkles Strand. Vicki and Wayne live upstairs, and guests have their own living space. The beach is across the quiet road.

There is one bedroom with a superking bed, plus sofa beds in the living area. The compact kitchenette is suited to simple meals. There is also covered outdoor seating with a BBQ. Contact Vicki to confirm the sleeping setup, cooking equipment and arrival arrangements for your stay.

Kayaks are available for guest use by arrangement with the hosts. Discuss equipment and conditions before planning an outing. Parking is on the beachfront across the road; ask about access if you have particular requirements.

Visiting family or travelling through Auckland

A coastal stay can give you your own space while visiting relatives on the peninsula. Check the route to their actual address when planning your visit.

If you are starting or finishing a New Zealand trip, allow time for the journey through Auckland. Whangaparaoa is north of the city and the airport is to the south. Check traffic, flight timing and rental-car return arrangements separately, and agree any late arrival with Vicki.
